Ask A Question
After cable TV became available in more homes, the volume of content available to consumers has increased greatly. As someone who prefers satellite over cable, I suggest one of the many DISH Network Packages available. However you decide to get it, AMC’s Breaking Bad is worth checking out.
Anyone that is a fan of televised entertainment is aware of the common cliché where a family man risks everything merely to make ends meet. Perhaps they take on a dangerous job to provide for their family, or perhaps they delve into the world of illegality and attempt to benefit from unlawful trade. For the record, I generally steer clear of cliches when it comes to TV, mainly because each time it seems like I already understand exactly how the story will turn out. This on the other hand, is not the case for one of my favorite television action/dramas, Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad revolves around family man Walter White (played by Brian Cranston), a high school chemistry teacher who develops lung cancer when his wife is expecting with their second baby, their 1st youngster is a disadvantaged adolescent afflicted with Cerebral Palsy and must use two metal crutches to walk.
Walter’s life seems to be coming along just fine until he is diagnosed with lung cancer. As Walter begins his treatment the notion of dying and leaving his loved ones with nothing plagues him more and more as the days go on. When Walter accompanies his brother, a DEA agent, on a meth lab raid, Walter views a large bag of money that the crooks have acquired by selling the methamphetamine they prepared in their lab. Walter also witnesses one of his former students, Jesse Pinkman, escape the grasp of the DEA and get away with it. Walter contrives an idea to bribe Jesse Pinkman to help him get started preparing methamphetamine so that Walter can secure his family’s financial security after he passes away from lung cancer.
I have watched all three seasons the show has created so far and I highly recommend fans of the genre, and anyone in general to tune into this AMC gem. The story advances with unlimited excitement and unforeseen turns, and pretty much everything you can count on from a excellent show. Following the characters of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and their respective families becomes instantly addicting as they take viewers into the dirty undercover world of the methamphetamine industry.
Another thing that makes this show so different is the dynamic between Walter and his former student Jesse Pinkman. Pinkman is addicted to methamphetamine and is seriously involved in the drug business, while Water, who hasn’t spent a day in prison in his whole life is residing in a quiet suburban locality with his loved ones. Walter knows very little about unlawful activities and has the normal American family.
These two characters mix while Walter journeys into a life of crime and encounters many challenges along the way.
Walter must keep his new occupation a secret and lead a double life so that his loved ones will never discover what he has been doing or else he fears he will lose them all. At the same time Jesse battles with where he desires to go in life and tries to find a happy medium for himself.
One final word on Breaking Bad: This is one show that will certainly not leave you bored while watching.

MasterChef (premiered at 9/8c on FOX) is a program that is a cross between American Idol and Hell’s Kitchen. Amateur chefs compete for $250,000 and the chance to have their own cookbook published by having their own recipes and signature dishes cooked on each show. Starting with hopeful cheftestants, the home cooks will be whittled down from 50 to 30 in the first 2 episodes by controversial British culinary mastermind Gordon Ramsay, the sharp-tongued star of Hell’s Kitchen. Hoping for a ratings bonanza similar to that of MasterChef Australia (over 25% of entire Australian population tuned into the final episode), FOX and Ramsay (who is also producing the show) will be gunning for a program that will rejuvenate audiences to the tired elimination ‘reality’ television format. Aimed at the 18-49 age category, this show has already placed third behind Bachelorette and the other Ramsay show Hell’s Kitchen after it’s premiere. So it appears to be faring the way that Ramsay and FOX would have liked.
With a range of dishes and the topic of food which is a common hot topic for all, this program is bound to continue to resonate with viewers across the country. I personally will be hoping that the show will be more encouraging than Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and may gather an audience sick of shows that are about crime, murder, discouraging and humiliating people.
So what does it take to become a MasterChef? Well Gordon Ramsay gives some of his tips for the amateur chefs. Let’s see if they adhere to this by the end of the competition and whether or not Gordon Ramsay will also be less sharp tongued as he has promised to be on this show.
Here, he gives us the recipe for creaming the competition.
1. Cook with amore! “What we’re really looking for is someone with an overwhelming passion for food,” says Ramsay. “That’s the main ingredient!”
2. Get creative. “In one challenge, I’ll ask the contestants to make a stunning dish using just one egg. Only the most creative contestants will survive.”
3. Know thy pantry. “A Master Chef needs to have the most amazing palate and food knowledge. They must be able to identify ingredients by taste, smell and sight in order to truly master them.”
4. Simplicity rules. “Many contestants tried to serve complex, pretentious dishes that just ended up being a bloody mess. The key is to keep it simple, fresh and delicious.”
5. Keep it real. “A MasterChef will always be true to [his] own culinary roots—authenticity is key. We judges will often push contestants out of their own cooking comfort zones to learn about other cuisines and flavors. But without a doubt, the best dishes are always the ones that come straight from the heart.”
