Ask A Question
Essential oils and organic compounds are at the foundation of all aromatherapy treatments. Since aromatherapy oils are ingested or used topically it is important to pay close attention to several quality factors, such as the manufacturing methods, when purchasing them.
There are two main classifications for essentials oils, food grade and therapeutic grade. Food grade or a lower quality oil and not good for inhalation. Therapeutic grade oils are of a better quality and higher purity and are preferred for most aromatherapy uses. It is important to learn about the different types and classifications of organic oils to know which type you might need.
The location that a plant is grown in can have a big influence on its price. Certain plants can only be grown in specific geographic locations, the subsequent scarcity of these plants will often drive up the price. Temporary factors such as annual harvests or shifting demand can also have an impact on quality alter price.
Apart from the environment in which a plant is cultivated the oil extraction method is the other major factor in its quality. Extraction is how the valuable oils and compounds contained in plants are removed and separated from unwanted chemicals or impurities. The two types of extraction are physical extraction and chemical extraction. Physical methods include steam extraction and a process called enfleurage. Supercritical extraction is a type of chemical extraction technique and can be used for obtained extremely pure and unadulterated compounds.
Harvested oils can either be food grade or therapeutic grade. A compounds content is detailed in its Food Chemical Codex or FCC. This is a listing of the compound ratios of diverse oils.
Though all compounds should be extracted naturally from source plants several manufacturers use synthetic additives. Food grade natural herbal compounds should be avoided for this reason, in spite of the name which makes them sound suitable for aromatherapy.
Therapeutic grade is the classification used for natural herbal compounds that are manufactured from organic sources and appropriate for aromatherapy. It can be hard to know the value of organic oils and their constituent parts only by physical inspection so it is important to make purchases only from reputable shops.

Despite the fact that the government spends trillion on health we seem to be sicker than ever. We get fatter but we aren’t as fit, and more and more of us get cancer than we used to a hundred years ago. Mainstream medicine isn’t working as well as it should, so the question arises about whether we should be taking all natural health supplements.
Now I’m not saying mainstream medicine is failing us totally, they have made some huge breakthroughs in recent years. Look at how the cure rate for cancer has gone up. But we still seem to be getting cancer at a higher rate than ever before.
So although cure rates are better it’s about the incidence of disease. Mainstream medicine focuses on cure, but all natural health supplements and many other forms of natural and alternative medicine focus on prevention.
Of course there is plenty more that we can be doing to help prevent poor health. A good diet, rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and low in fats, particularly saturated fats, and low in salt and sugar is essential, as is regular exercise, but there is growing evidence that good dietary supplementation is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.
There are a range of reasons for this. There is growing evidence that modern horticultural practices like intensive and monoculture farming is robbing the soil of essential minerals and vitamins that should be in the vegetables and fruit we eat. And of course if they’re gone from the soil they won’t be in the fruit or vegetables.
Ditto the obscene use of chemical fertilizers, and the jury is out on GM food, though I for one don’t want to eat any of it.
But it is clear that there are so many natural substances that are found in a wide range of different natural products that we should be adding to our diet, but realistically can’t do so.
For example I have been reading today about some exciting new discoveries, curcumin and resveratrol. These are both naturally occurring substances that have been researched recently and found to have a wide range of health benefits. Both are showing very promising results against a range of different health problems , and if you’re interested in taking these you have good reason. But it’s extremely difficult to do so without taking high quality all natural dietary supplements which include both of these.
There are some very good niche health care companies that make very good natural dietary supplements and they are right at the cutting edge of research into producing high quality nutritional supplements. And I’ll bet you’ve never even heard of these companies either.
One in particular produces natural dietary supplements of the highest possible quality, with 77 different ingredients that are known to demonstrate a massive range of preventative properties, all combined with a world leading delivery system.
There’s no doubt there is plenty of evidence that we should be taking a high quality range of nutritional supplements. Our rates of disease are rising and whilst modern medicine is doing well at cure we need to be concentrating ourselves on prevention. And there is no doubt either that one of the best preventions is intelligent use of good dietary supplementation.
Because I don’t ever want to rely on a doctor for a cure.
